The program marks the return of an initiative that had been paused during the COVID-19 pandemic. Looking ahead, CCDS plans to offer two Early Career Dentist events each year, creating ongoing opportunities for emerging dentists to build professional relationships, develop leadership skills, and navigate the business of dentistry with greater confidence.

Dr. Christina Penn, Chair of the Early Career Dentists Committee, welcomed attendees and shared the committee's vision for creating programming that is practical, relevant, and responsive to the needs of early-career dentists. She invited participants to continue sharing ideas for future topics, speakers, and formats so the series can evolve alongside the profession.

CCDS President Dr. Ken Tittle also welcomed the group, encouraging attendees to become involved in organized dentistry and reminding them that today's early-career members will help shape the future of both the Society and the profession.

The evening's discussion was facilitated by Laura Boone and Julia Smith of Fortune Management, together with Forrest Wiederman and CJ Williams of Bank of America. Rather than a traditional lecture, the session was designed as an interactive conversation focused on leadership, practice management, financial planning, and the transition from clinician to practice owner.

As part of the registration process, participants were invited to submit questions they hoped to explore during the session. Their responses reflected common themes: practice ownership, partnerships, financing, cash flow, insurance reimbursement, leadership, mentorship, and building successful practices in a changing professional landscape.

Those topics guided a wide-ranging discussion that allowed participants to explore real-world challenges, exchange perspectives, and continue conversations with colleagues throughout the evening. While the program was designed for dentists in the early stages of their careers, the participation of more experienced members added valuable perspective and highlighted the importance of mentorship across every stage of professional practice.

The feedback suggests the Society's renewed investment in early-career programming is meeting an important need. Participants rated the speakers, venue, and overall relevance of the program highly, and every survey respondent indicated they would attend another Early Career Dentist event. Suggestions for future programs—including wellness and dental emergencies—will help shape upcoming offerings as the series continues to evolve.

The relaunch of the Early Career Dentist program reflects CCDS's commitment to investing in the future of the profession. By creating opportunities for mentorship, candid conversation, and professional connection, the Society aims to support emerging dentists as they build successful practices, develop as leaders, and strengthen the dental community.
